On September 23rd, 2017, seniors from across Chicago came together to demand their elected officials stand for dignity and justice. Jane Addams Seniors in Action Endorsement Team made the official announcement of NO ENDORSEMENT for the 2018 Illinois gubernatorial primary race.

It was a unanimous decision that none of the candidates who participated in our endorsement process upheld the core JASIA beliefs and values of racial justice, community organizing, and holding corporations and the 1% accountable to a people-based economy.

JASIA members and activists will still take action for this upcoming election by putting our boots to the ground and lifting our voices in action! Seniors will be out in the streets door knocking and canvassing, and talking to seniors across Illinois through phone banking, to promote senior values and senior issues of universal healthcare or Medicare for All, affordable housing, and living and ageing with dignity and security.

Our mission is to unite the power of seniors and our allies in an active grassroots organization, which works to build racial, social, and economic justice. Its activities include community organizing, coalition building, issue campaigns, referenda efforts, educating voters, direct lobbying, and candidate electoral endorsements.
